Obituary of Joyce M. Flynn

PEABODY - Joyce M. (Daley) Flynn, 86, beloved wife of the late Michael F. Flynn, Jr., died Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Care One (Essex Park) in Beverly surrounded by her family.

Born in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Arthur E. and Florence (Riley) Daley.  A graduate of Immaculata College for Women in Washington, DC, Joyce received an Associate of Arts degree in Business.

Joyce’s entrepreneurial spirit, youthful personality, and active involvement in civic and charitable causes defined her life.  She enjoyed charity work and was a co-chairperson of the Peabody Chamber of Commerce Golden Anniversary Celebration in 1981.  Joyce also held volunteer positions with North Shore Children’s Hospital, North Shore Catholic Charities, and the Leo Guild.

As a result of her charity work, Joyce started a successful party planning and fundraising business with her friend, the late Madeline Elwell, known as Party Line Consultants.  The company was well-known for hosting “Monte Carlo” nights throughout the North Shore.  Joyce joined Century 21 North Shore as a realtor in 1993.  She was recognized as a “million dollar” producer and received commendations for her team spirit and client service skills.

A longtime resident of the North Shore, Joyce was passionate about golf.  She and her late husband, Michael, belonged to Salem Country Club for many years.  Joyce was honored to take on the role of Vice Chairperson of Facilities for the 1984 U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship at Salem Country Club.  She was awarded a silver medal by the United States Golf Association for her contributions to the overall success of the tournament.

Joyce was always willing to pitch in and do the hard work behind the scenes that makes charitable causes successful, and would always extend kindness to others whether it be through her words or actions.   Her presence could light up a room and Joyce will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Flynn of Alexandria, VA, two sons, Michael F. Flynn III and his wife, Sherry,  of Wilton, NH, and Richard Flynn of Salem, a granddaughter, Catherine O’Hara Flynn of Wilton, NH, a sister, Mary Yerrick and her husband, John, of Bethesda, MD, her brother-in-law, John Flynn of Topsfield and  her sister-in-law, Florence Flynn of Osterville.  She was also the mother of the late Suzanne Flynn Perrotta, grandmother of the late Erin Elyse Flynn and sister of the late Paul J. Daley and Marilyn McLaughlin.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Chestnut Street, Peabody, Friday, October 4, 2019 at 12 p.m.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may greet the family at the church prior to the Mass on Friday from 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Arrangements by the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody.  In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Peter A.
