Obituary of Alice Maria Bettencourt

Peabody – Alice Maria Bettencourt 77, beloved wife of the late James A. Bowers, died Friday, January 3, 2020 at the Atrium Care Center in Danvers. Born in Luz, Graciosa, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel L. and Zulmira (Santos) Bettencourt. She immigrated to the United States in 1956 settling in Peabody where she had since resided. Mrs. Bettencourt had been employed for many years as a senior lab technician for Perkin Elmer Electronics in Salem until the time of her retirement. A longtime communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, she was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society. Alice had a great love for animals, especially birds and as a young woman, she bred rabbits in Portugal. She enjoyed gardening, music, cars and crocheting. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friends who will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea M. Pereira of Tallahassee, FL, three grandchildren, Amanda Zacchi and her husband, Caio of Tallahassee, FL, Sarah A. Pereira of Peabody and Jacob A. Pereira of Tallahassee, FL, six great grandchildren, Angelina, Carmen, Caio Jr., Damian, Eliana and Antonio, Two step-sons, James Bowers of Winchester and Michael Bowers of MN and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maria E. Espinola, Manuel S. Bettencourt and his wife, Rosa and Aristides S. Bettencourt and his wife, Aurea. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody, Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
