Obituary of Melvin J. Haverty

Groveland – Melvin J. Haverty 68, beloved husband of Agnes “Aggie” (Ryan) Haverty, died Friday, March 27, 2020 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Born in Chelsea, he was the son of the late James and Beulah (Anthony) Haverty. He was raised and educated in Everett and was a graduate of Everett High School. Mr. Haverty had been employed for several years as a trolley driver for the MBTA until the time of his retirement in 2015. A longtime resident of Groveland, Melvin was an avid automobile enthusiast. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife with whom he shared forty four years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Shannon Elizabeth Haverty-LaPointe and her husband, Kevin of Groveland and Kathryn Rose Haverty of Groveland, three grandchildren, Nolan Michael Mallett, Kolton Jace LaPointe and Brody Asher LaPointe and several nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa Church of Our Lady of Good Council Parish, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen, Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by the Conway Cahill Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.
