Obituary of Sonny Canavan

Peabody – John B. “Sonny” Canavan 87, died Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Care One Health Care Center in Peabody. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late William L. and Mary E. (Lewis) Canavan. He was raised in Peabody and received his education in the Peabody school system. Mr. Canavan had been employed for twenty-three years at Eastman Gelatine in Peabody until the time of his retirement in 1991. He expressed that those were the “best twenty-three years of his life.” He continued on after his retirement as a “good will ambassador” for Eastman Gelatine. He later went on to work as a service supervisor at Lowes Theater in Danvers. Surviving him are two sisters, Catherine “Katie” Cavallon of Peabody and Margaret “Peggy” Canty of Wakefield, several nieces and nephews including two special nieces, Linda Cavallon and Debby Crean both of Peabody and many dear friends. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary E. Canavan, Dorothy Aylward and Patricia Hussien. His funeral service will be held at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 10 a.m. A visiting hour will be held prior to the service on Thursday morning from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. All attendees are required to wear mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
