Obituary of Margretta E. Burns

Peabody - Margretta (Scarnegie) Burns, wife of Robert C. Burns, passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers at the age of 79 on the morning of Thursday, December 3, 2020. Born and raised in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Margretta (Shamburger) Scarnegie. Prior to her retirement, Margie had been employed as a quality control inspector at Walbar, Inc. in Peabody where she met her future husband, Bob Burns. Margie was happiest when her family was gathered around the kitchen table laughing, telling stories and listening to music. She was a musician at heart played the accordion at a young age, taught herself to read music and played the organ beautifully. She loved shopping on QVC, swimming at the YMCA and meeting with her childhood friends every Wednesday for lunch. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Jeselonis and her husband, Thomas of Amesbury, her son, Richard “Richie” Day and his wife, Wanda of Phoenix, AZ, two grandchildren, Dalton Day of Peabody and Rhiannon Jeselonis of Amesbury, Her sister and best friend, Lois Gauvain of Peabody and sister, Shirly Long and her husband, James of Las Vegas, NV, two step-daughters, Linda Gelineau and her husband, David of Beverly and Christine Paradise of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a step-son, Robert Burns and his wife, Shawnda of Cincinnati, Ohio and several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Ellen McGuiness, Gloria Conway, Grayce Scarnegie and Leo Scarnegie. Her funeral services will be private.
