Obituary of David W Crane

David W Crane, 95, of Peabody and Freedom, NH, died suddenly on Wednesday at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Ruth (King) Crane with whom he shared over 64 years of marriage. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William and Minnie (Roberts) Crane. David was orphaned at the age of three and was raised and educated in Reading by his foster mother Ruth “Mama Lou” Smith. David was a skilled machinist who retired from the General Electric Company many years ago. He also served on the board and was a past President of the Mountview Property Owners Association in Freedom, NH on Ossipee Lake. David never stopped working and always considered himself a “workingman.” He was very clever at building and repairing things. In recent years he may have slowed down but still could be found working on some project; it is what kept him going all these years. David was a very honest and loyal man and he dearly missed driving and the independence it gave him. The family would like to give special thanks to his wonderful neighbors, Anne and Paul for always watching out for him and caring. They are deeply grateful. David is survived by his daughter, Patricia Crane and her companion Daniel Holmes of Lowell, his daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Crane of Peabody, his three grandchildren, Lisa Marie and her husband Jim Morsett, Linda and her husband Don Kuszmar, and Michael and his wife, Julie Crane, his great grandchildren, Lauren and her husband Jason Gigliello, Liza and Lexie Morsett, Emily and Halle Kuszmar and Dylan and Jayme Crane and also by his great great grandchildren, Thomas and Tucker Gigliello, and by his sisters-in-law, Violet Dooley and Marilyn Liberge of Lynn and Judy Thibodeau of Jacksonville, Fl and his foster families the Dooley’s and Smith’s. He was predeceased by his son Thomas J. Crane and three sisters, Frannie, Hazel Wheeler and Helen Amazeen. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Lake St, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. The family will gather at the entrance of the Cemetery and process down to graveside. All attendees are required to wear facial coverings and maintain social distancing as well.
