It's 11:30 AM on Tuesday, Sept 29 and I wish I was with my family at Scott's funeral. My memories of Scotty are from visits and weddings long ago and, more recently, from family reunions in NH. Although I didn't know him all that well, I know that he was well-loved and will be deeply missed. It seems so unfair to lose him so young. We, Sanfords, often live very long lives, like into the 90s. It seems like Scott's life story is ending prematurely, maybe cut off too soon. But who am I to say...
If there's one thing we have absolutely no control over, it is when we pass over to the other side. I'm confident that we go on to a good place though, regardless of what you call it. Personally, I think of it as going home, a place where love and light reign supreme. I imagine my dad (aka Uncle Phil) and Aunt Margo, my grandparents, and all of Scotty's ancestors, greeting him upon his arrival and wrapping him in a huge welcome. It makes me feel better to envision him in this beautiful transcendent place. A homecoming.
Meanwhile, down here amongst the living, my heart hurts for all of you - Scott's family. I send special prayers and love to you, Uncle Paul and Aunt Margie. And I leave hugs for each of you here in this place, with a wish that I lived closer and that I was sitting with you all at the funeral right now. With deep and abiding love, my condolences - Liz Sanford
