John Duff was a beacon in the darkness, always with a happy smile, always with a good gesture or important remembrance. He was also a huge help to me starting out in practice, sent me patients, asked for consults. He took care of many in the family and always gave his best. He was a catalyst in medicine, had patients literally all over the country. It was a joy to know him and his family. Chris and I ( and all our family) send our deepest best wishes. If there be a heaven, John will be at the gates to greet us all with joy. Tony and Chris Patton

I am so sorry for your loss. I was a nurse at Hunt Hospital with your dad for 15 years, a thankful patient as well as a receiver of one of your mom's dogs after a visit to Oak Marsh. I considered John a friend as well as a professional peer. My prayers and thoughts to all of you, Fay Curtis

To each child of Uncle John and Aunt Esty....(and to their families)...We are so sad for the loss of your father. Both of your parents, your entire family, and Nana too were such special people in our family. We have so many memories, starting with Kathy and me. And seeing the wedding pictures of both sets of our parents. Such long histories between the two families. I am keeping you all in my heart and prayers. I am comforted that your sweet mom and dad, and Cindy are safely home. Much love to each of you, Taffy Hamilton Benson

Dr. John Duff was always a hero to me.he was not only a good man but a great man.In my teen years he and Esty took my brother and I along with my friends on camping trips that today seem like Navy Seal Training, but we had an amazing time and survived. The times spent at Oakmarsh were beyond happy,at times I thought my mother lived there. My wife and kids knew every inch of the pool and the barn, also the cabin in the woods.
When Etsy got sick,John took control of her care, now thats a real man. They were a team and no one was going to separate them.
I lost a friend, but the world lost a truly great man,I already miss him,
John was so proud of all his kid ,grandkids and great grands, that when Janet and I would visit Brooksby Village we would get all the latest updates. We were amazed with his memory,I needed to take notes.
His family and friends will miss him but his memory will live on.I’m sad,but also happy to have known,Dr.John Duff, rest in peace my friend....

John was a close personal friend of our family, my dad, Dr. Tony Patton (a surgeon colleague in Danvers, now in retirement in Topsham, ME), his wife and my mom, Chris, and my sisters Kimberley and Laurie. He always had a wonderful cherubic smile and warm hello for everyone, all the time. He was a huge asset to the medical community in Danvers and the North Shore for decades, and as the administrator for the BIDMC Orthopedic Department, I am newly appreciative of his tremendous contributions to this branch of the medical profession. John was one of the greats in his field. Deepest condolences from all of the Pattons formerly at 159 Locust Street in Danvers. Please see the Memories section for a couple of wonderful stories about how John lived and loved his patients and friends and life. - Geoff Patton
