Obituary of Rose Marie D. Portelance R.N.
Rose Marie D. Portelance, R.N., 85, of Peabody, died Sunday at the Essex Park Nursing Center in Beverly after a long illness. She was born in Salem, Ma on October 27,1921, the daughter of the late Alphonse and Marie R. (La Plante) Portelance and was a resident of Peabody most of her life.
She was a graduate of St. Chretienne Academy in Salem in 1938 . She later graduated from the Salem Hospital School of Nursing and received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Boston College and her master’s degree from Boston University.
She was a registered nurse at the Shaughnessey Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital for many years prior to her retirement in 1996. Miss Portelance had belonged to many nursing associations and the Catholic Daughters of America.
She is survived by a nephew, Albert Portelance and a niece Diane Portelance. She was pre-deceased by her brother, Joseph Portelance.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 until 9:45 AM at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
