Obituary of James T. Kallelis Sr.
James T. Kallelis, Sr. 86, of South Peabody, died Tuesday morning at the Salem Hospital after a short illness. He was the husband of 56 years of Marriage to the late Evelyn M. (Neylon) Kallelis who died in 1998.
He was born in Salem, Ma on May 9, 1921, the son of the late James C. and Mary Elizabeth (Claffey) Kallelis and was a resident of Peabody most of his life.
He served two tours in the CCC Programs in the Thirty’s and later served with the US Army 9th Division during WW 11. He was a member of the American Legion Post 153 of Peabody.
Following the war, he returned to A.C. Lawrence Leather Co., Peabody where he was employed as a millwright for 37 years retiring in 1976. He had been a member of the Salem YMCA for 37 years and for the past nine years served at the receptionist desk there.
He enjoyed photography, woodworking, gardening and cooking with his famous recipes. He was a member of the NACCA, National Civilian Conservation Corps Alumnae and enjoyed being surrounded by his family.
He is survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, James T. and Joanne Kallelis Jr. and Bernard F. and Naomi Kallelis all of Peabody and Terrance B. and Judy
Neylan (he changed name) of Salem, a daughter, Eileen E. Deleskey of Peabody, a sister, Alice Beauchamp of Georgetown, 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 10 great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Kathleen L. LaBelle and the brother of the late Charles Kallelis and Mary Diamantopoulos.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’s Church, Lynn St., Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to charity of your choice.
