Obituary of Theodore C. "Ted" Jones

Theodore C. “Ted” Jones, 70, a prominent citizen of Peabody and former co-owner of the Century House Restaurant on Rt. 114, died unexpectedly on Wednesday June 20, 2007. He was the husband of Evangeline (Diskes) Jones with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. He was born in Danvers on June 14, 1937 the son of the late Gordon C. and Anita (Collette) Jones and was raised in Salem before moving to Peabody 35 years ago. He was a co-owner of the Century House Restaurant in Peabody for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 2002. Ted was a prime leader in many programs in the City of Peabody which included a member of the Peabody Development Authority for 23 years and was directly involved with the development of Centennial Park. He was a generous benefactor for the D.A.R.E. program and many other anti-drug youth programs in Peabody. He had been a cooperator of the North Shore Bank in Peabody, past director of the Peabody and North Shore Chamber of Commerce, and was a member for many years with St. Val’s Men’s Club of Peabody. He was the recipient of the Harry Ankeles Community Service award which is given to individuals who exemplifies selfless dedication to the community. At the early age of three, Ted had a passion for cars and later worked in a garage and from that spurned his desire for his antique car collection including his mustang and Studebaker. He was instrumental in the reproduction of the 1949 Peabody Police Cruise and was a technical consultant for the Peabody Police Department. He had been a member of many antique car clubs the foremost being the North shore Old Car Club. In addition to his wife, he his survived by his two daughters, Cyndi Jones and Deborah Jones both of Peabody, a brother and sister-in-law, Robert E. and Gail Jones of Lenore, NC, a sister, Susan Jones of Maryland, his seven grandchildren, Eric Werner, Jared Dineen, Alexander Lang, Mariah and Kristin Bailey, Jaclyn Lemoine and Cody Burke and many nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed by his beagle dog best friend “Molly”. He was the brother of the late Nancy Whitmore. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will the held there on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Peabody-Lynnfield YMCA, 259 Lynnfield St., Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
