Obituary of Eleanor D. (Lawrence) Callahan
Eleanor (Lawrence) Callahan, 80, died early Thursday morning at the Jewish Rehabilitation Center in Swampscott following a long illness.
Born in Peabody, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene (Dullea) Lawrence. She lived in Peabody all of her life and attended Peabody schools. She graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1941 at Peabody High School.
Mrs. Callahan worked as a Clerk at the Peabody Housing Authority, an Assistant City Clerk at Peabody City Hall, and a Sales Associate with Jordan Marsh in Peabody. She was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed traveling, especially to San Diego, was a communicant at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody and was a member of the Sodality, and she was also a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association of Massachusetts.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence L. & Deborah Callahan of Salem and Kevin Callahan of Peabody; a daughter, Dale E. Callahan-Raucci of Peabody; six grandchildren, L. Fletcher Callahan of New York City, Gweneth Callahan of Salem, Dawn & Curtis Caravallo of Salisbury, Amy Raucci of Peabody, Pia Raucci of Beverly, and Casey Keilty of Peabody; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Tyler, and Jack Caravallo of Salisbury; one brother, Charles J. Lawrence, II of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Henry W. Lawrence.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Mass on Thursday at 11 AM in St. John’ s Church, Peabody. Cremation will happen before the Mass and burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
