Obituary of Muriel "Penny" Cooper
Muriel M. “Penny” (Lockyer) Cooper, 83, of Peabody, died Sunday afternoon at her home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Allan J. Cooper.
Born in Winthrop, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Fischer) Lockyer. She was raised and educated in Winthrop and attended Winthrop Public Schools. She has lived in Peabody for the past 50 years.
In her early years, she worked as a secretary in the accounting department at the former Jordan Marsh store and later she worked for the weather Bureau at Boston’s Logan International Airport before her retirement many years ago.
She enjoyed listening to talk radio, doing crossword puzzles, reading, and loved baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox. Also, while living in Winthrop, she enjoyed swimming and diving in the ocean waters.
She is survived by a son, Allan J. Cooper, Jr, of Amesbury, a brother, William and his wife, Kathleen Lockyer of Harwhichport, and a sister, Joan LeClair of Quincy and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
