Obituary of Spero "Moe" Spaneas

Spero “Moe” Spaneas, 84, of Peabody died Wednesday July 11, 2007 surrounded by his family at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Peabody. Mr. Spaneas was born on January 29, 1923 in Lowell son of the late Andrew and Georgia (Mitsakos) Spaneas. He was raised in Peabody and graduated from Peabody High School Class of 1941 and was a lifelong resident of the City. During WW II, he served in the United States Navy as a Seaman 1st Class and received the European African Theatre Medal. Mr. Spaneas was employed as a leather worker with several leather companies on the North Shore. He was a member of the VFW Fidelity Post 1011 in Peabody, an avid Red Sox Fan and sports enthusiast. He is survived by a sister and her husband, Stella and Clay Anastopoulos of Peabody; his nieces and nephew, Andrea Landry, Courtney Landry of Danvers, Georgiana Sperlinga, Cris and Kathy Anastopoulos of Peabody, Tanya Spaneas of Beverly, Andrea Lee Spaneas of Falmouth and Toni Ann Spaneas of Lynn; a longtime companion, Charlene Webster of Peabody. His sisters Rena Knowlton, Mary Chatelle and her brothers John, Tony and Paul Spaneas pre deceased him. His funeral will be held on Saturday July 14, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody followed by a service at 10 a.m. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday 5 to 8 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
