Obituary of Elizabeth H. (Hawkes) Jeffers

Elizabeth H. (Hawkes) Jeffers, 77, of Peabody died Wednesday July 11, 2007, surrounded by her family at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. Mrs. Jeffers was born on May 28, 1930 in Salem daughter of the late Winslow Davis Hawkes Sr. and Elizabeth Agnes (Herr) Hawkes. She was raised in Marblehead and graduated from Marblehead High School Class of 1948. She then pursued her education and received her Nursing Degree in 1951 from the Salem Hospital School of Nursing. She resided for most of her life in Marblehead. Mrs. Jeffers was a self-employed seamstress. She and her needlepoint group met weekly on Monday’s. She was a member of the Red Hat Society Scarlett Roamers Chapter. Mrs. Jeffers is survived by her 3 sons and their spouses, Douglas S. Jeffers and Mitzi Fennel of Cambridge, H. Scott and Deborah Jeffers of Salem and John C. and Kristi Jeffers of Peabody; a brother, Edward Hawkes of Marblehead; a sister, Irene Rand of Falmouth formerly of Marblehead; 7 grandchildren, Tristan Jeffers of Providence RI, Damon and Devin Jeffers of Salem, Elsbeth and Anna Jeffers of Cambridge, Hunter and Helen Jeffers of Peabody; her former husband, John Coombs Jeffers of Peabody and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Her brothers Winslow and John Hawkes pre deceased her. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday July 15, 2007 at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody. Her family will plan a memorial service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to North Shore Cancer Center, 17 Centennial Drive, Peabody MA 01960.
