Obituary of Barbara Wonson Burney

Barbara Wonson Burney, 54, of West Peabody, died Monday afternoon at the Beverly Hospital after a most courageous battle with multiple myoloma. Born and raised in Gloucester, she was the daughter of Russell and Sarah (Pascucci) Wonson of Gloucester. She had attended Gloucester public schools and was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1966. She later returned to school as a working mother with two young children. She earned an associate degree from North Shore Community College in 1982 and later earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Bentley College in Waltham in 1986. She had worked as an accountant at numerous Chemical Supply Companies within the greater Boston area. For 3-4 years prior to her illness, she provided integral techniques in sales training for the Sandler Sales Systems. She further assisted in the implementation and design for improved recruiting methods at Sandler Sales System. She was a veteran member of the Boston Rotary Club. After recovering from a stem cell transplant and aggressive radiation, her courage, will, and determination enabled her to travel to China to assist in the internationalization of the Rotary Club. She was a member of the National Associations of Accountants, Who’ s Who’ s in College, a veteran member of Business Network International, and also a member of Calvary Temple Assembly of God in Lynnfield. Her vast interest included sailing, gardening, baking, music, and Yacht Racing at the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly. She will be most affectionately remembered by family and friends, as a wonderful lady with both grace and dignity. Besides her parents, she is survived by her loving and adoring family, including her son, Michael O. Burney of Peabody; a daughter, Regina Barbara Robbins of Burlington, VT; a sister and brother-in-law, Diane & Bill Niemi of Gloucester and her long time friends, John Mattera of Saugus and Kathy Tennihan of Peabody and her entire Church family at Calvary Temple in Lynnfield. Her Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM at the Calvary Temple Assembley of God Church,40 Grove St., Lynnfield to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.at the Conway Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut Street, Peabody facility. Burial will be private in Rockport.
