Obituary of Manuel S. Silva
Manuel S. Silva, 79, of Peabody, died early Saturday evening at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Belmira C. (da Silva) Silva with whom he shared over 54 years of marriage.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose De Sousa and Maria Catarina da Silva. He was raised in Portugal until immigrating the United States in 1976 and has been residing in Peabody ever since.
While in Peabody, he worked in the leather industry for over 15 years as a feeder before retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and Our Lady of Help Hall, both in Peabody. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and raising rabbits.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a brother, Origue Sousa of Ottawa, Canada, and a sister, Lucia Melo of Portugal and several nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews in Peabody, Canada, and Portugal. He was the father of the late Maria Jose da Silva and brother of the late Duarte, Jose, and Antero Sousa and Maria de Ludres da Silva.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visitation on Tuesday from 4 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’ s Cemetery, Salem.
