Obituary of James P. "Guyer" Adamopoulos

James P. “Guyer” Adamopoulos, 83, of Peabody, passed away peacefully Sunday night, August 5, 2007, surrounded by his family at the Pilgrim House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Peabody. He was the loving husband of Helen (Farfaras) Adamopoulos with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. He was born in Lowell on December 27, 1923, the son of the late Apostolos and Evangeline (Katsiris) Adamopoulos and was a life long resident of Peabody. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1941 and later attended Boston University and Northeastern University. He served in the military in the US Army Air Corps for 30 months overseas in the Central Pacific from 1943 -1945 and was with the Aviation Ordinance 87th Air Drome on June 14, 1944. He was employed at the General Electric Company for 37 years in the Steam Turbine and Small Aircraft Division and served in the Vendor Quality Control and Generator Assembly prior to his retirement in April, 1986. He was a Fraternal 32nd Degree Mason and belonged to the Jordan Lodge in Peabody and the Scottish Rites in Boston. Jimmy was an avid sports fan. He especially liked the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and he never missed a Peabody High School football game during the years that Arthur Adamopoulos was the Coach. He was a lifelong member of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church of Peabody. Jimmy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who loved him especially as the adoring husband, father and grandfather that he was. In addition to his wife, Jimmy is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Thomas Pappas of Peabody. He was the proud grandfather of his grandson, Yanni Demetrios Pappas of Peabody. Yanni was “Papou’s pride and joy and his little champ.” He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Angie Adamopoulos of Peabody, and many nieces, nephews and several Godchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Stella Siakallis, Georgia Dover, Ann Gaudreault, his brother, Kostadinos Adamopoulos and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charles and Christine Farfaras. A Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Friday at 12 Noon from the Funeral Home followed by Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
