Obituary of Carl C. Carlson
Carl C. Carlson, 78, of Saugus and formerly of Peabody, died Thursday afternoon at Union Hospital in Lynn following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Nancy (Pare) Carlson with whom he shared over 17 years of marriage.
Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Thurston and Beatrice (Acker) Carlson. He was raised and educated in the Boston area, he then later lived in New York and Maine and most recently had lived in Peabody for 20 years and in Saugus for the past year.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army who served during the Korean War and was honorable discharged in December of 1956.
He was a self-employed truck driver and worked for many companies, including D&C Trucking in Wells, Maine. While living in Wells, he owned and operated a Demolition Derby Race Track and also was a volunteer for the Wells School System. He donated his time at various functions for the schools, either for the concession stands or helping out with his daughter’s softball team.
Mr. Carlson was a jack of all trades who enjoyed working with his hands, either doing electrical or plumbing work and general construction. He also enjoyed building air planes and at one time owned his own plane. He was an avid Red Sox fan and a hockey fan as well.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Valerie and her husband Michael Hubbard of Kennebunk, ME., a son, John and his wife Tina Opatka of Sutton, two step daughters, Bobbiann and her husband Edward Lavin of Millbury and Joanne and her husband David Miller of Saugus, a sister, Marjorie Green of FL, two step sisters, Regina Kowenhaven of CT and Carolyn Blake of NJ, nine grandchildren, Suzanne, Doug, Crystal, Kimberly, John, Melissa, Trevor, Katrina, and Carly. He was the brother of the late Bud Carlson and Alice McDonald.
His Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 8:30 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to NSMC Salem Hospital, C/O Free Clinic, 81 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
