Obituary of Donna Elaine (Chase) Ducey

Donna Elaine (Chase) Ducey, 58, of Porter, Maine and formerly of Saugus and Peabody, MA, died Friday at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine after a twelve year battle with Cancer. She was the loving wife of Thomas E. Ducey with whom she shared 35 years of marriage. Born on October 20, 1948 in Salem, MA, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Marjorie (Cook) Chase. She grew up and was educated in Peabody, graduating from Peabody High School in 1966. She later lived in Saugus before moving to Maine two years ago. She was first employed as an office administrator at the SIR Insurance Company in Peabody and later in Boston for six years. She then worked for Sakel Mechanical as an accountant and bookkeeper until her retirement in 2004. She took pleasure in being outdoors, gardening, and taking walks through the woods and along the beach. While at her summer home in Limerick, ME, she loved to pick apples and go blueberry picking with her grandchildren. Reading and knitting were also some activities that she enjoyed. Most of all, she cherished the time that she spent with her family. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years at the Cliftondale Congregational Church in Saugus. She was also active in the Saugus community through volunteer work. Most recently, she served on the Bi-Centennial Committee in Porter, ME. In addition to her husband she was the devoted mother of three children, Bryan and his wife Kellie Ducey of Saugus, MA, Laura and her husband Marcel Mercer of Gorham, ME and Matthew Ducey of Springfield, MA. She is also survived by two sisters, Gayle Chase-Negroni of North Andover and Janet and her husband Peter Sakelakos of Peabody, her three grandchildren, Alexandrea and Keira Mercer and Bryanna Ducey, her aunt and uncle Allison and Louise Chase, her mother-in-law, Rita E. Ducey of Saugus, several cousins and many nieces and nephews. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Anthony Ducey. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St, Peabody facility. Her funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM in the Cliftondale Congregational Church, 50 Essex St., Saugus, MA. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, West Peabody. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the North Shore Cancer Center,17 Centennial Drive, Peabody, MA 01960, in her memory.
