Obituary of Valentino Vercellone

Valentino Tino Vercellone, 83, of Peabody died Saturday morning at the VA Medical Center in Bedford, Ma. after a long illness. He was the Husband of Domenica (Carando) Vercellone with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Sagamore, Ma., he was the son of the late Guiseppe and Ursola (Rondelleto) Vercellone and had resided in Peabody most of his life. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1937 and played football on the championship teams. He was a distinguished veteran of WW 11 where he served with the U.S. Army 41st armored division led by General Patten in the Rhineland and Northenn France and was taken prisoner by the German army and held captive for 5 months. He was a recipient of The Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and the P.O.W. Medal. Upon his discharge, he worked at the John Riley Tanning Co. in Woburn for 5 years And then became a foreman at the Sirois Leather Co., Peabody for 15 years prior to his Retirement 19 years ago. He was a member of the Beverly Golf & Tennis Club for over 30 years, the Italian American Club of Peabody and the I.C.C. Club of Beverly, The Leo Council #508 Knights of Columbus of Peabody and the Primeau E. Plaudo Club of Beverly. He was also a life member of the Ex-Prisoner of War Association and The DAV Chapter 100 of Peabody. Surviving him besides his wife are a brother and Sister-in-law, Mario and Mary Vercellone of Peabody; 2 nieces, Joyce Vercellone of Peabody and Patricia Gettings of Middleton; 3 nephews, Joseph Vercellone of Cooper City, Fl., Frank Vercellone of No. Milford, Ct. and Ronald Vercellone of Bradford,Ma. And many grandniece and grandnephews. He was the brother of the late Frank and John Vercellone. His Funeral will be Held on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m from the Conway facility at 12 Chestnut St., Peabody Of the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Ann’ s Church, Peabody at 9:00 a.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody, Visiting hours On Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
