Richard T. Curran
Richard Thomas Curran, 70, of West Peabody, died Tuesday at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Roslindale after a short illness. He was the husband of Janet (Murphy) Curran with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.
He was born in Lowell on March 3, 1937 , the son of the late Francis B. and Blanche A. (Mayotte) Curran and was raised there, graduating from Keith Academy in Lowell. He was a 1959 graduate of MIT in Cambridge, with a degree in engineering and later received his MBA from Northeastern University.
He had been a Chemical Engineer at the General Electric Company in Lynn for 42 years prior to his retirement 6 years ago.
He was an active member of St. Adelaide’s Church in West Peabody where he served as an Usher and was the Athletic Director for 20 years. He coached the Girls CYO Basketball teams for 20 years.He also coached Little League baseball in West Peabody for the Angels and later the Padres. He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing golf and traveling.
Surviving him besides his wife are two sons, Michael & his wife Martha Curran of Ipswich and Brian & his wife Cheryl Curran of Bolton, MA, three daughters, Donna Webster of Hanson, MA, Julie & her husband D.C. Gagnon and Eileen & her husband Jamie Gagnon all of Newburyport, MA, his fifteen grandchildren, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis B. and Jeanette Curran Jr. of Florissant, MO, and Donald D. and Thel Curran of Redondo Beach, CA, a sister, Joyce A. Curran of Playa Del Rey, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Roger Curran
A Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Adelaide’s Church, West Peabody at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Liver Foundation, NE Chapter, 88 Winchester St., Newton, Ma 02461 in his memory.
