Obituary of Mary (Santoro) Scaffeo

Mary (Santoro) Scaffeo, 96, of Peabody and formerly of East Boston, died Saturday afternoon at the Pilgrim Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Alfonse Scaffeo. Born in Naples, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie Santoro. She was raised and educated in Medford where she attended Catholic Schools. Upon her marriage, she moved to East Boston and for the past 14 years, she has lived in Peabody. Mary loved playing bingo and could be seen playing at any place on the North Shore, and she would be described as the one wearing the hat. She also loved to cook and travel, and would often take bus trips with her daughter and friends from anywhere from Montreal, Canada to Atlantic City, New Jersey and beyond. Mary was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by a daughter, Louise Visconte of Peabody, a brother, Joseph Santoro of Revere, a granddaughter, Joanne and her husband August Rouge, three great grandchildren, Eric and his wife Nicole Muise, Alicia Sanchez, and AJ Rouge, and four great great grandchildren, Jacqueline Muise, Zishonne Sanchez, Romeo Sanchez, and Daiysha Kelly. She was the sister of the late Annie DiLullo, Connie Agri, and Rosie Rizzo. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
