Obituary of Sophie B. (Lojko) Surman

Sophie B. (Lojko) Surman PEABODY—Sophie B. (Lojko) Surman, 80, beloved wife of the late Alfred L. Surman, died peacefully early Saturday morning at the Peabody Glen Nursing Home in Peabody following a long illness. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (Krysiac) Lojko. She lived there in her youth and graduated from Salem High School. Although she worked for a short time in the leather factories, Sophie will be best remembered as a nurturing mother and grandmother, playing cards, travel with family—basically a warm person who enjoyed life. She is survived by: two daughters, Katherine Surman of Lynn and Linda & Edward Gauthier of Saugus with whom she lived the past 16 years; three grandchildren, Edward Gauthier of NY, Jessica Gauthier of Saugus, and Stacy Gauthier of Wakefield; a brother, Stanley Lojko of Salem, a sister Ann Mac Pherson of Salem, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband Alfred, by a sister Helen Lojko and brothers Anthony and Joseph Lojko. A visitation will be held tonight from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, MA. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM from the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Margaret’s Church, Saugus, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor St., Suite 2., Norwood, MA 02062.
