Obituary of Edward V. Goff Sr.

Edward Vincent Goff Sr., 82, of Peabody, died early Friday morning at the Lahey Clinic North Hospital in Peabody after a brief illness. He was the husband of Ann (Chenery) Goff with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. He was born in Lynn, Ma on September 25,1924, the son of the late Maurice and Catherine (Williams) Goff and moved to Peabody where he resided most of his life. He was a graduate of Peabody High School in 1942 where he played many sports and was a member of the Golf Team. Following his graduation, he entered the US Army and was a decorated veteran receiving 4 Bronze battle stars from his action in the Battle of the Bulge, and in Normandy on D-Day and later in Belgium. After the war, he started working at the New England Tel. & Tel. Company for 41 years rising to executive position before his retirement. He was an avid golfer and had belonged to the Peabody Country Club, later at Ferncroft Country Club and then at the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club for several years. He had been a coach with the Peabody Little League and also helped with the Boy Scout organization in Peabody. Ed was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and enjoyed his family, neighbors and his many friends. Surviving him besides his wife is a son, Edward Goff of Amherst, NH, a sister, Barbara Cahill of Ipswich, MA. His grandchildren, Dean Goff of Steep Falls, Me, Jonathan and Ashley Goff both of Amherst, NH,and Brandon Goff of Dover, NH, his great grandchildren Nathan Patrick and Ella Riley Goff of Steep Falls, ME, his daughters-in-law, Joyce Goff of Standish, Me and Wendy Goff of Bedford, NH, a sister-in-law, Theresa Brouillard and her husband Norman of Cape Cod and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Peter Goff and the brother of the late Maurice Goff. A Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 9:00 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
