Obituary of Maxine (Vunkannon) (Parris) Stevens
Maxine (Vunkannon) (Parris) Stevens, 87, of Peabody, died Tuesday morning at the Essex Park Nursing Home in Beverly following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Howard Parris and William Stevens.
Born in Quitman, Texas, she was the daughter of the late George and Flora (Broyles) Vunkannon. She was raised and educated in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, and later in 1947, moved to Peabody where she has resided ever since.
She met her first husband, Howard Parris while she was dancing with the USO during World War II. She later would serve as Commander for the Women’s Auxiliary for the Veteran’s of Foreign War, Post 1011 in Peabody.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a clerk for the Woolworth’s Company, and later for Stork Time, and finally, at the Almy’s at the North Shore Shopping Center in Peabody.
Maxine is survived by three sons, Danny Parris of Peabody, Leslie and his wife Marie Parris of Lynn and Wayne and his wife, Sally Parris of Amesbury, she is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer, Lauren, Madhuri, and Bharti Parris. She was the mother-in-law of the late Louise Parris.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9:00 until 11:00 AM. Burial on Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody
