Obituary of Victor R. Lord
Victor R. Lord, 87, of Swampscott and formerly of Salem, died Wednesday at the Hospice Unit at Salem Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Lucy D.
(Thibault) Lord with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.
He was born in Salem, MA on September 28, 1919, the son of the late Victor M. and Blanche (Francoeur) Lord and was a graduate of Salem High School. He then entered the US Army in 1941 and saw service in Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe during WW 11 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster prior to his discharge in 1945.
He then joined the Salem Evening News as a linotype operator for almost 40 years prior to his retirement. He had been a member and officer of the Linotype’s Union of Lynn.
Mr. Lord was very active in St Anne’s Church in Salem where he served as treasurer to the Holy Name Society and also was a Eucharistic Minister there for many years. He and his wife moved to Swampscott nine years ago.
He enjoyed gardening and growing his vegetables and was an avid Red Sox Fan.
Surviving him besides his wife are a daughter, Vickie Lord of Peabody, a son, David Lord of Danvers, a son-in-law, Michael Clifford of Middleton, two grandchildren, Kelly Clifford Watrous and her husband Christopher Waltrous and Gregory M. Clifford all of Middleton, a great granddaughter, Catherine Watrous of Middleton, a brother, Paul E. Lord of Salem and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Blanche Chute.
A Visitation will be held on
Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn ST., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Monday at 8:15 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem,Ma at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 in his memory.
