Obituary of Byzant Gregory Manoogian

Byzant Gregory Manoogian, 91 years, died March 12, 2005 at a local nursing facility in Peabody following a short illness. He was the husband of May (Melanson) Manoogian with whom he had shared 71 years of marriage. Born July 27, 1913 in Peabody, he was the son of the late Dr. Byzant John Manoogian and Margaret Anne McGlauflin. He was raised and educated in Peabody. He was a member of the Peabody High School football team and a graduated of the class of 1931. He resided in Peabody for most of his life. Mr. Manoogian was employed as a leather worker for many years and subsequently worked as a machinist and furniture maker. Throughout his life, he enjoyed restoring automobiles and boats. He loved to work with his hands and he had a keen eye for design. After his retirement, he established his own furniture business, the Country Pine Store that he operated for 18 years on Washington Street in Peabody. He, along with his wife, built a summer cottage in New Hampshire that became the gathering spot for family and friends. In his later years, he became an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his fresh vegetables with everyone. He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Alice Bayne and George Demeritt of Middleton; a grandson and his wife, John and Michelle Demeritt of Newburyport; a granddaughter, Ann Demeritt of Middleton; 4 great grandchildren, Julie and Melissa Deschenes of Middleton and Harrison and Grace Demeritt of Newburyport; a brother and his wife, Robert and Phyllis Manoogian of Peabody; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Manoogian of Marblehead and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was pre deceased by his siblings Olive Manoogian and Haig Richardson Dick Manoogian. His funeral will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St., location, Peabody. Relatives and friends are invited and may pay their respects Wednesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Burial in Oak Dale Cemetery, Middleton. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to a charity of one’ s choice.
