Obituary of Vasiliki "Bessie" (Hatzidemetrio Karas

Vasiliki “Bessie” (Hatzidemetriou) Karas PEABODY—Vasiliki “Bessie” (Hatzidemetriou) Karas, beloved wife of the late Steve Karas, died peacefully Wednesday afternoon at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing Center in Peabody. Born in Samos, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Dimitri and Katherine Hatzidemetriou. She lived in Greece until she got married, then moved to the United States in 1930. She and her husband Steve settled in Elyria, OH where her husband had a grocery store. She moved to Peabody in 1985, and was a communicant of St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. She is survived by: two daughters, Katherine Power and her husband John of Westlake, OH, and Helen Anezis and her husband John of Peabody; and seven grandchildren, Maria Gauvain and her husband Robert, Vanessa Stolar, Stephanie Najjar and her husband Joseph, Steve Anezis and his wife Jeanine, Jennifer Gravelle and her husband Nathan, Rebecca and her husband Don Baker, and Roberta and her husband Mark Nehez, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death, besides her husband, by a brother and three sisters in Greece. Her Funeral Service was held on Friday in St. Vasilios Church, Peabody, with burial in Elyria, Ohio. Funeral planned with the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, Peabody.
