Obituary of Alice M. (Trindade) Silva

Alice M. (Trindade) Silva, 83, of Peabody, died Sunday evening at Salem Hospital following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Jose Gomes Silva, Jr., with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage. Born in Figueira Da Foz, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Ramos) Trindade. She was raised and educated in Portugal, and in 1955, she immigrated to the United States and has been a resident of Peabody ever since. While living in Peabody, she worked as a seamstress for NE Sportswear and later for Fishery Products in Danvers before retiring. She was a very active member and volunteer, and also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody. She also was a member of the Holy Ghost Society. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed knitting Afghans for the annual Bazaar. Family was very important to her and she devoted her time, energy, and her encouragement to her family. Besides her husband, she is survived by her loving children, Jose M. Silva, Maria and her husband Carlos Machado of Port St. Lucie, Fla. Alice and John Nunes and Teresa and Helder CostaRita, all of Peabody, a sister and brother-in-law, Odette and Manuel Marques Pinto of Portugal, 5 grandchildren, Carlos and Julie Machado, Gina Provencher, John Nunes, and Angela CostaRita, two great grandchildren, Justin and Jenna Provencher and is also survived by two nephews, Jose and Manuel Marques Pinto. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday from 8:30 until 9:30 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
