Obituary of Marion Julia Alleyne
Marian Julia Alleyne, of Peabody, who reached her 100th birthday on April 15, 2007, died Saturday morning at her residence after a long illness. She was born in Salem, MA on April 15, 1907, the daughter of the late Dr. James D. and Mary A (Fitzgerald) Alleyne R.N. and in her early youth moved to the Barbedos with her family where her father and mother established a medical practice there.
Following the death of Dr. Alleyne, she moved back to Peabody and was a graduate of Bryant and Stratton Secretarial School in Boston.
She had been a bookkeeper at the P.J. Woods Insurance Agency in Peabody for 45 years prior to her retirement .
She had been a parishioner of St. John’s Church and a member of the Ladies Sodality for several years.
Miss Alleyne was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and enjoyed playing golf at the Wenham Golf Club.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, James M. Thompson of Pisgah Forrest, NC, Audrey T. Hill of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Elizabeth Ann Gommers of Machiasport, Me and Eben Anthony Thompson of Jackson, TN and eleven grand nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary F. Alleyne, Agnes P. Alleyne, Hannah F. Alleyne and Elizabeth J. Thompson.
A visitation will be held on Thursday from 6-8 PM and Friday morning from 10:00 - 10:45 AM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., downtown Peabody location. Her Funeral will be held on Friday from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’s Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. John’s Church Memorial Fund, 16 Chestnut St., Peabody, MA 01960 or the St. Labre Indian School, Tongue River Rd., Ashland, MT. 59004 in her memory.
