Obituary of Leo Gregory Nicholas

Leo Gregory Nicholas, 86, of Peabody and formerly of Lynn, died early Sunday morning at the Lahey Clinic in Peabody Following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Marian (Ripley) Nicholas with whom he shared over 58 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Gregory and Mitrie (Anastas) Nicholas. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School. After High School, he attended entered the military and served with the United States Army Air Corps as flight engineer on a B26 during World War II and was Honorable Discharged in February of 1946. Under the GI Bill, he attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His graduating class of 1950 was the first to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon his graduation, he worked for a year for Hanson Engineer in Lynn and then in 1951, he embarked on 34 year career working for General Electric at the River Works Plant in Lynn until his retirement in 1985. He was a former mason of the Jordan Masonic Jordan Lodge AF - AM in Peabody and also served on the Advisory Council of the Peabody Chapter of the DeMouley. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Nicholas of Peabody and Edward and Adele Nicholas, of New Market, NH, a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Joel Marie of Nahant, and is also survived by his four grandchildren, Michael and Michelle Nicholas and Gregory and Eric Marie. His visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the Second Congregational Church, Maple St., in Peabody. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
