Obituary of William Stansfield
William Stansfield, 85, husband of Grace V. (Pisano) Stansfield of Peabody, died on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief illness.
Mr. Stansfield was born on October 19, 1922 in Lawrence son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Sellars) Stansfield. He was raised and educated in Danvers. On June 15, 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class until receiving his Honorable Discharge on April 9, 1948.
Mr. Stansfield began his working career at the Peter Cooper of New York section at Eastman Gelatine Corporation in Peabody where he was employed for many years. He was then employed as a truck driver / warehouse for Hamblet and Hayes Company in Salem until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the Vittori-Rocci Post 143 in Beverly and the Italian American Citizens Club in Peabody. He was also an avid sports enthusiast, enjoyed traveling and going to Foxwoods.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 60 years of marriage, he is survived by his children, Richard A. and his wife Sharon Stansfield of Peabody and Cindi M. McGonagle of Danvers; a brother and his wife, Donald and Virginia Stansfield of Rockport; a sister, Grace O’Donnell of Essex; his grandchildren, Jeff and Carol McGonagle of Beverly, Joseph McGonagle and his fiancée Laurie Thai of Danvers, Tara Stansfield of Derry NH and William and Melanie Stansfield of Ipswich; a great grandson, Cameron McGonagle of Beverly; a dear friend Bob Cottle of Beverly and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His siblings Mary Ryan, Ernie and Gib Stansfield pre deceased him.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Ann’s Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Burial in St. Joseph cemetery, Lynn.
