Arthur Davis
PEABODYArthur Davis, 90, formerly of Lowell St. and beloved husband of the late Mary “Dolly” (Soraghan) Davis, died peacefully Tuesday evening at his home while surrounded by his family.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary (Sousa) Davis. He was a lifelong resident of Peabody.
Mr. Davis worked at A.C. Lawrence for several years, and was mostly a General Contractor. He continued operating his parents Chicken and Eggs supply for wholesale and retail, and was an Assistant Manager and Maintenance for the Lowe Mart Grocery Store for many years.
He met a patriotic duty with service in the United States Navy during World War II, and was stationed in Philippine Liberation and Asiatic-Pacific Theatres.
Arthur enjoyed people and will be remembered for his gentle ways and willingness to lend a hand. He enjoyed sports in general and was a member of the Wenham Golf Club, bowled in several leaguesrecently with Sunnyside Lanes in Danvers and Metro Bowl. He also enjoyed connecting with nature by growing his garden of assorted vegetables, assorted flowers, and will be remembered with his unique way of engraving his grandchildren’s names on pumpkins he cultured.
He will be dearly missed by friends and five generations of family, including: a daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine & William Conner of Orange Park, FL; five grandchildren, Leigh Larson of Peabody, David & Sivv Larson of TX, Kim Tatterfield of Danvers, Mary & James Remington of Jacksonville, FL, and Mark & Angela Tatterfield of NH; seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Catherine “Kitty” Dexter and Edith Davis, both of Peabody; a brother-in-law, Patrick & Phyllis Soraghan of Peabody, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, besides his wife and parents, by a daughter Patricia Tatterfield, a grandson John Tatterfield, a brother Richard Davis, and sister Minnie Dunn.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Funeral Mass on Tuesday at 11 AM in St. John’s Church, Peabody.
Urn burial will be in the Veterans Section of Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody, following the Mass.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
