Obituary of David George Latta

David George Latta, 89, of Peabody and formerly of Charlestown, died Tuesday at the Peabody Glenn Nursing Home in Peabody after a short illness. He was the husband of the late Ann Marie “Nancy” (Ryan) Latta. He was born in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada on August 15, 1918, the son of the late Walter and Davina (Hendry) Latta and moved with his parents in his youth to Cambridge, MA and was a graduate of Cambridge Ringe and Latin High School. He had been a metallurgist at the Reece Corporation in Waltham for several years prior to his retirement in 1981. He later worked as a butcher in Fanuel Hall in Boston for a few years before moving to Peabody 15 years ago. While living in Charlestown, he was a past president of the Holy Name Society of St. Catherine’s Church and was also a member of Council # 62, Knights of Columbus in Charlestown. He is survived by his four children, George R. Latta of Rockland, Marjorie A. and her husband Robert Dromgoole of Westford, Helen M. and her husband Denis Coleman of Salem and David and his wife Dorothy Latta of Stoneham, a sister Eleanor Larkin of Somerville, MA, two sister-in-laws, Doris Latta of Maynard and Alice Driscoll of Salem, his nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Garfield “Gary” Latta and the dear friend of the late Tibbie Bates. A Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility. His Funeral will be held on Saturday at 8:30 AM from the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Peabody/Salem line at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Roger Trask Day Care Center, 79 Central St., Peabody, MA 01960 in his memory.
