Obituary of Frederick G. Black

Frederick G. Black PEABODY—Frederick G. Black, 72, of Danvers, formerly of Peabody, beloved husband of Patricia (Donovan) Black of Danvers, formerly of Peabody, died peacefully Tuesday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Everett, he was the son of the late Harry and Mildred Black. He lived in Everett for 10 years. His family moved to Peabody where he lived most of his life, and he graduated from Peabody High School. He lived in Danvers for the last 10 years. Mr. Black enlisted with the United States Coast Guard where he served from the end of the Korean War to the beginning of the Vietnam War. He owned and operated his business, New England Luggage in Boston for many years. Later in his career he was a Salesman with Commodore Lincoln-Mercury in Peabody then O’Keefe Chevrolet in Ipswich before retiring about eight years ago. Fred enjoyed being an Outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing He was a member of the Danvers Fish and Game Club, an avid Boston sports fan, and enjoyed social gatherings of friends and family. He will be dearly missed by friends and family, including: his wife, Patricia (Donovan) Black of Danvers, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage; one son, Stephen Black of MI; two daughters, Kerry Black-Garvey of Peabody and Stacy Scott & her husband, Andrew, of Beverly; four grandchildren, Michael and Morgan Scott and Emma and Olivia Garvey; one brother, Bernard Black of Danvers; one sister, Phyllis Keyes of NY, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. His funeral will be held gathering on Friday at 10 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, c/o Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
