Obituary of Shirley (Hansen) Manchurowski

Shirley C. (Hansen) Manchurowski, 74,of Peabody, wife of the late Philip J. Manchurowski, died Wednesday morning following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Harold L. And Madolyn P.F. (Rafuse) Hansen. She lived in Beverly for many years. She was in the first class that females were allowed in the Patten Print Shop Trade Program, and graduated from Beverly High School, Class of 1945. Mrs. Manchurowski worked for New England Telephone as an Operator, then went into Civil Service where she was an Operator on several Air Force Bases around the country, including Alaska, California, Langley, VA, Louisiana, and finally Hanscom AFB in Bedford, Ma. with her husband who served a career in the Air Force. She retired from Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford in 1988. She lived in Venice, FL for many years after her retirement and returned to the North Shore for the last two years. She loved travelling, especially to Nova Scotia, Canada, playing cards, gardening, spending time with her family especially her great grandchildren, and spent many rainy days working on her family’ s geneology for years. She will be dearly missed by her many family and friends including: one daughter and son-in-law, Carrie & Greg Page of Peabody; three grandchildren and their spouses, Eric & Kim Bassi and Philip J. & Shannon Bassi, both of Peabody, and Stephenie Bassi & her fiancee Charles Connelly of FL; five great-grandchildren, Kayla Ortiz and Alexandra Bassi, Angelique Bassi, and Christian Bassi all of Peabody, and Charles J. Connelly IV of FL; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma J. & late Robert W. Lewis of Hamilton, Janice K. & J. Robert Tanzella and Pamela & Stewart Spencer of Beverly, and Hillary L. & late James F. Mackey of Salem; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas & Nancy Hansen of Springfield, MA, and she leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a sister, Sonja K.Hansen of Beverly. A Graveside Ceremony to commemorate her life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at North Beverly Cemetery, 191 Cabot St.No, Beverly at the Hansen family lot.
