Obituary of Daniel F. Rosa

Daniel F. Rosa, 82, a retired Peabody Firefighter, died Sunday , December 2, 2007 at the Salem Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Zilda (Antunes) Rosa with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. He was born in Peabody, the son of the late Manuel and Candida Rosa and was educated and resided here all his life. Dan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many and will be greatly missed. At 17 years old, Dan enlisted in the US Navy where he served his country during WW 11. Following his discharge, he returned to his employment at the A.C. Lawrence Leather Company in Peabody where he worked for many years. He and his wife were married on September 14, 1945 in Peabody. Together Dan and Zilda worked as Portuguese interpreters at Logan Airport, Boston and at various court houses. Dan began his career as a firefighter in Peabody in 1959 and served 20 years there until his retirement in 1979. An avid photographer, he served as the official photographer for the Peabody Fire Department. In his retirement, he enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City with his family and traveling to Portugal. Surviving him besides his wife are three children, Diane Raymond and her husband David of Peabody, Leo Rosa and his wife Lauren Kittredge of Middleton and Daniel A. Rosa and his partner, Margaret Riley of Burke, VA, his six grandchildren, Jessica English and her husband Josh, Jeffrey Raymond, Hayley Raymond, Bryan Buckley, Christopher Rosa and Casey Rosa and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn ST., Peabody facility. A Funeral Service will be held there on Thursday at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
