Obituary of Doris Marie (Donovan) Hutchins

Doris Marie (Donovan) Hutchins, 85, of Peabody, died Monday afternoon following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Edwin C. Hutchins, Sr. Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late John and Emily (Jerome) Donovan. She was raised and educated in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School, class of 1940. She has lived in Peabody for the past 57 years. She was a veteran of World War II, who served with the United States Navy as a Storekeeper First Class at Staff Headquarters at Harvard University. She later worked for the city of Peabody, first for the School Department and later for the Electric Light Department before retiring many years ago. Doris also enjoyed playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles in the daily Boston Globe, crocheting, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. She is survived by a son, Edwin C. Hutchins, Jr, of Danvers, two daughters, Doris and her husband David Ahern of Beverly, Elizabeth Hutchins and her partner, Paula Renock, of Hinsdale, NH, a daughter-in-law, Helen Hutchins of Beverly, she is also survived by her grandchildren, Suzanne Newell, Greg and Gary Hutchins, David Ahern and Meredith Tamilio, and four great grandchildren, Caroline Newell, Anthony and Adriana Tamilio and Courtney Healey. She was the sister of the late Jerome Donovan, John Donovan, and Emily Barry. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home to which relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
