Obituary of George Edward Jalbert

George Edward Jalbert, 86, husband of Lorraine A. (Charest) McGovern Jalbert of Peabody and husband of the late Marion (Fuchs) Jalbert, died Wednesday December 5, 2007 at Salem Hospital surrounded by his family. Mr. Jalbert was born on August 11, 1921 in Salem son of the late George E. and Helena “Lena” (LeBlanc) Jalbert. He was raised and educated in Salem and resided in Salem before moving to Peabody in 1950. During WW II, he served in the United States Navy as a Seaman 1st Class aboard the USS Hydrus AKA28 in the Asiatic Pacific Area Theater of Operation. He was honorably discharged on January 9, 1946. Mr. Jalbert began his working career as a machinist striker at Atwood & Morrell Machine Shop in Salem. From 1957 he was employed as a millwright in the maintenance department at the GTE Sylvania Loring Avenue Plant in Salem until his retirement in 1984. Mr. Jalbert dedicated his life to his entire family. He was a member of the GTE Sylvania Quarter Century Club, the Peabody Council on Aging and also enjoyed traveling. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and her husband, Patricia A. and Douglas Craig of Eliot ME; 2 brothers, Raymond Jalbert of Marblehead and Robert “Pete” Jalbert of Salem; his grandchildren, Jason and Kate Craig of Eddington Maine; a great grandson, Ian Craig of Maine and several nieces and nephews. His siblings Alice Frye, Theresa Marraffa, Jeannette Eon, Gertrude Bolduc, Leo “Pat” Jalbert and Roger Jalbert predeceased him. His funeral will be held on Monday December 10, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
