Obituary of Charles T. Pappas

Charles T. Pappas, 87, of Peabody and formerly of Ayer and Lowell, died early Wednesday morning at the Massachusetts General Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Bessie (Sparages) Pappas. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Thomas and Kaliope (Konides) Pappas. He later lived in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He later lived in Ayer, Nashua, NH, and Chelmsford and has spent the last 4 years living in Peabody. While living in Ayer, he worked for over 37 years as a civilian at Ft. Deven’s as supervisor of medical supplies. He also served as a town selectman and as a part time police officer for the town of Ayer. He also was a Mason and was a member of the Caleb Butler Lodge in Ayer. Mr. Pappas took up the game of golf late in life and in his retirement, worked at the Ipswich Country Club for four years. He also was a member of the Lowell Veteran’s of Foreign War Club and was a past president of Lowell’s AHEPA Club in the 1980’s. Mr. Pappas is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Liza Pappas of Ft. Collins, Colorado, two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jim Rempis of Arlington and Carolyne and Michael Farrell of Newburyport, a brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Helen Pappas of Ocean City, MD, and his two beloved grandchildren, Alexa Rempis and Matthew Pappas, and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by Funeral Services at St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 10:00 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 8:30 PM. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the MGH Cancer Center, C/O the Steven E. and Catherine Pappas Neural Oncology CTR, 165 Cambridge St., Boston, MA 02114.
