Obituary of Edna M. (Smith) Beckwith

Edna M. (Smith) Beckwith, a resident of Topsfield for 12 years, died Thursday, December 13, 2007 at her daughter's home surrounded by family, after a long illness. Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Nellie E. (Conway) and the late Walter A. Smith. She grew up in Somerville and graduated Somerville High School, Class of 1941. She was a resident of Winthrop for many years. Edna worked as a Switchborard Operator at New England Telephone, in the Credit Department for Jordan Marsh for nine years, as well as a Receptionist for White Weld & Merrill Lynch. She was the Past President and member of the Winthrop Catholic Women's Club and a member of their Literary Guild, was a Past President of the St. John the Evangelist School Mother's Club, and a Life Member of the Emerald Society fo the Boston Police Department. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Beckwith. She is survived by: her son Thomas M. Beckwith of Boxford, her daughter Chrysan E. Corcione of Peabody, her grandchildren Charles J. Mustone, II of Peabody, Christopher Corcione of Scituate, Michael T. Beckwith & Emily S. Beckwith both of Boxford; great-grandson Nicholas J. Corcione; her sisters Elizabeth M. Smith of Winthrop, Marion Madigan of Shirley, and many nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Claire B. Nestor and Edward W. Smith. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Her funeral will be gathering on Tuesday at 8:45 AM at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, Park St., Topsfield, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Donations in Edna's memory may be made to a local Food Pantry.
