Obituary of Lucinda L. Mendonca

Lucinda L. Mendonca, 84, of Peabody, died early Friday morning at the Pilgrim Nursing Home following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Joao Espinola Mendonca. Born and raised in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Salvador and Rita (Silva) Fernandes. In 1971, she and her family immigrated to the United States and have been living in Peabody for the past 36 years. While living in Peabody, she worked at the Ideal Baby Shoe Company in Danvers as a finisher until her retirement many years ago. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and Our Lady of Fatima Church. She also enjoyed baking, shopping and handcrafts. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Maria Mendonca of Peabody and Manuel and Lucy Mendonca of Tyngsboro. Four daughters and three sons-in-law, Maria and Manuel Silva, Maria Joao, Rita and John Costa, and Maria Christina and Jose Pavao, all of Peabody, she is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and a step great grandchild and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was the sister of the late Manuel, Jose, Joao, and Alberto Fernandes, Maria Sousa and Alvira Quadros. Her funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody Facility, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 7:00 PM. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem
