Obituary of Sonia (Micalchuk) Hamilton

Sonia (Micalchuk) Hamilton, 80, of Peabody, died Friday evening at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Home in Salem following a long illness. She was born in Peabody on August 19, 1927, the daughter of the late Paramon and Micalina (Pilipow) Micalchuk and was a graduate of Peabody High School. After her marriage, she had resided in Tucson, Arizona for 5 years before returning to Peabody. She was first employed at the former CBS Hytron in Danvers and later at GTE Sylvania for 30 years. She later worked in the dietary section of the Salem Hospital for 2 years prior to her retirement. She had been a member of the Russian Aid Society of Salem and the Quarter Century Club of GTE Sylvania. She enjoyed playing Bingo and in her youth and earlier years, she loved to dance at the Franco American Club socials in Beverly. She was also a snowmobile enthusiast and liked to ride with her companion on the motorcycles. She also enjoyed going to the beaches on the North Shore. She was the former wife of the late Raymond G. Hamilton Sr. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond G. “Reggie” and Barbara Hamilton of Salem, two daughters, Leona J. Hamilton of Salem and Nadine C. Hamilton of Peabody, two sisters, Helen Brown of Peabody and Lydia Szaban of Salem, her three grandchildren, John P. Bollettiero of Beverly , Michael P. Bollettiero of Salem and Sean Baskett of Peabody and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Peter, John, Walter, George and Michael Micalchuk. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 82 Lynn St., Peabody facility. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice.
