Obituary of Anne (Hughes) Claffey

Mrs. Anne (Hughes) Claffey, 94, of Danvers And formerly of Peabody, died Saturday at the Harborside Cedar Glenn Nursing Center in Danvers after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late James Claffey. She was born in England on October 6, 1907, the daughter of the late David and Hannah (Riordan) Hughes and had resided in Peabody for 40 years and later in Califonia before moving back here 10 years ago. She was a waitress at the former Swenbecks Restaurant in Salem Willows and later at Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead and then at Stromberg’ s Restaurant in Salem. In her later Years she was a co-owner with her late son of the North Shore Taxi Co. of Peabody For 8 years. She enjoyed traveling and visiting her family in California. She is survived by a daughter, Eileen A. Tardiff of Atascadero, Ca., a Brother, David Hughes of London, England, a dear cousin, Eileen Riordan of Marysville, Tn., 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren all of California and Michigan and many nieces and nephews including Joan Bilodeau Carpenella of Chester, N.H. and Mary Mac Donald of Peabody. She was the mother of the late Joseph A. Claffey, the sister of the late Alice Walsh, Mary Hobey and Joseph Hughes. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 20 Church St., Peabody facility followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John’ s Church ,Peabody at 11:00 A.M. Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visiting hours on Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
