Obituary of Jeronima Ataide Ortins

Jeronima Ataide Ortins PEABODY—Jeronima Ataide Ortins, 86, beloved wife of the late Serafim Ortins, died Sunday evening at her daughter’s home following a long illness. Born in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Espinola Ataide and Maria da Gloria da Silva. She emigrated to the United States, settling in Peabody where she lived for the last 38 years. Mrs. Ortins worked for Webster Industries, then as a Stitcher with Ideal Baby Shoe and then Salem Shoe before retiring. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Peabody, and a member of the Holy Ghost Society of Peabody. She is survived by: two sons, Manuel Ataide Ortins of Peabody and Antonio Ortins of Lowell; three daughters, Maria Urbina Alves, Maria Conceicao Silva and Maria Goreti Santos, all of Peabody; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mariana Silva, Alexandrina Veiga, and Maria Lourdes Bettencourt all of Peabody, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by three sisters Laurinda Ataide, Maria Silva, and Alvorina Silva, and a brother Manuel Ataide. A visitation will be held today from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody. Her funeral will be held gathering on Wednesday at 9 AM from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Peabody, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
