Obituary of William C. "Bill" Sterio

William C. Bill Sterio 83 years, formerly of Peabody died at his home in Salem after a brief illness. Mr. Sterio was born July 31, 1921 in Lynn son of the late Christo and Dona (Christo) Sterio. He was raised in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School and Bentley College. During WW II he served in the United States Navy as a bombsight technician 1st class in the Asiatic Pacific Theaters of Operation. Mr. Sterio was employed as a finance administrator for 45 years at General Electric in Lynn in the small aircraft engine department until his retirement in 1984. He was a 32nd degree Aleppo Temple Mason. He also volunteered for 20 years at the Peabody Council on Aging and received the Person of the Year Award in 1999. In addition to his longtime companion Bertha Hopkins of Salem, he is survived by a sister, Dita Notis of Belmont; 2 nephews, Paul Notis of Peabody, Thomas and his wife Moira Notis of Connecticut; a niece, Shirley and her husband Richard Constantin of Arlington. He was predeceased by his siblings Russell Sterio, Thomas Sterio and Anna George. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home at the 12 Chestnut St. location Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Friends of the Peabody Council on Aging, 79 Central St., Peabody MA 01960.
