Obituary of Daniel Vlasuk

Daniel Vlasuk, 91, of New Hampshire and formerly of Peabody and Fort Myers, Florida, died peacefully Monday morning at his daughter’s home in New Hampshire. He was the husband of the late Freda Buckley and Catherine (Argetes) Vlasuk. Born in Peabody on December 15, 1916, he was the son of the late Andrew and Zena (Propochenko) Vlasuk. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody High School, class of 1935. While in high school, Dan lettered in four varsity sports, golf, baseball, basketball, and football. Dan was veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army in Europe with the 78th Division and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. After the war, Dan worked for General Electric for over 36 years. He was a member of Legion Post 345 in Lynn, St. Vasilios Men’s Club in Peabody, and the Old Frisco Sports Club. Dan was also an avid golfer who won many General Electric and Salem Municipal Tournaments. Dan also played semi-pro baseball in the Lynn Park League and Boston Park League as well. In 2003, he moved to Florida and married Freda Buckley. He is survived by two daughters, Vivian Swanson of New Hampshire and Diane Durkee of Ohio, two grandchildren, David Swanson and his wife Lynne, and Lisa Smith, a great grandson, Eric Smith and was the brother of the late Alexander, Wasil “Cuppy”, and Julius Vlasuk and Louise Pray. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody Facility, followed by Funeral Services in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody at 11:00 AM to which relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
