Obituary of Julia (Maihos) Hammond

Julia (Maihos) Hammond, 87, beloved wife of Arthur F. “Sonny” Hammond, who died on January 12, 2008, and with whom she shared over 60 years of marriage, died on Tuesday January 29, 2008 at the Rosewood Nursing & Rehab Center in Peabody. Mrs. Hammond was born on April 18, 1920 in Peabody daughter of the late John D. and Sophia (Talembecos) Maihos. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the City. Mrs. Hammond began her working career at the Danvers Bleachery and later worked at Vulcan Electric. She was then employed as an engineering assistant at Wood Electric of Danvers until her retirement 30 years ago. She was the former President of the Peabody Emblem Club, a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, knitting, needlepoint and handcrafting. She is survived by 2 sisters, Dorothy Maihos and Mary Franggos both of Peabody; a sister-in-law, Georgia Maihos of Beverly; a 1st cousin, Theodora Paleologos of Westwood; her nieces and nephews, Dorothea Ingalls of Hamilton, Donald Hayes of Wenham, James Garnham of Peabody, Judith Crossman, Gordon Crossman III both of RI, John Crossman of ME, Mariann & George Illingworth of Peabody, Peter & Tracey Franggos of Byfield, John Maihos of Beverly and George Maihos of NH and many grandnieces and grandnephews. Her siblings James Maihos, Stella Garnham and her twin sister Rose Crossman predeceased her. Her funeral will be held on Saturday February 2, 2008 at 10 a.m. from the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. (new location) Peabody followed by a service at 11 a.m. in St. Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Paleologos St., Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Friday 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Peabody.
