Obituary of John F. Stanton

John F. Stanton PEABODY—John F. Stanton, 75, beloved husband of Joanna (Prest) Stanton of Peabody, died peacefully early Tuesday morning at the North Shore Medical Center—Salem Hospital following a long illness. Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Bertram and Helen (Foster) Stanton. He graduated from Peabody High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. Mr. Stanton learned much of his skill and training through apprenticeships, and was a Master Planner and Shipbuilder at the U.S. Naval Shipyards in Chelsea, MA and Portsmouth, NH. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. John had a passion for cooking, and was the chef at the Italian-American Club in Peabody. He also enjoyed travel to Las Vegas, Ireland, and cruising in the Caribbean. He is survived by: his wife, Joanna (Prest) Stanton of Peabody, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage; three sons, John & Marianne Stanton of Nantucket, Tim & Dee Stanton and Robert Stanton, both of Peabody; a daughter, Katie & Joseph Renda of Rockport; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Helen Kosten of Salem; four step-children and seven step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 to 10:45 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody with Military Honors. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
