John F. Stanton
PEABODYJohn F. Stanton, 75, beloved husband of Joanna (Prest) Stanton of Peabody, died peacefully early Tuesday morning at the North Shore Medical CenterSalem Hospital following a long illness.
Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Bertram and Helen (Foster) Stanton. He graduated from Peabody High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Stanton learned much of his skill and training through apprenticeships, and was a Master Planner and Shipbuilder at the U.S. Naval Shipyards in Chelsea, MA and Portsmouth, NH.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
John had a passion for cooking, and was the chef at the Italian-American Club in Peabody. He also enjoyed travel to Las Vegas, Ireland, and cruising in the Caribbean.
He is survived by: his wife, Joanna (Prest) Stanton of Peabody, with whom he shared 20 years of marriage; three sons, John & Marianne Stanton of Nantucket, Tim & Dee Stanton and Robert Stanton, both of Peabody; a daughter, Katie & Joseph Renda of Rockport; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Helen Kosten of Salem; four step-children and seven step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 to 10:45 AM in the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St. location, Peabody, followed by a
Funeral Service at 11 AM. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody with Military Honors.
